'Labour of the Day' by De Brakke Grond & DroogExhibitions / Amsterdam
03 April 2014 - 01 May, 11am - 6pm (Mon-Fri), 1pm - 6pm (Sat. & Sun.)
De Brakke Grond and world-famous Dutch collective Droog have teamed up to create Labour of the Day, an exhibition that explores the role of manual craftsmanship, technology and the creation process in the future of design.
The Exhibition: Labour of the Day
De Brakke Grond and Droog have invited a number of designers to use the space between their institutions in the centre of Amsterdam as an entry point into exploring the larger question of the future role of labour in the design and production industry.
As has happened in other industries, the world of design is becoming increasingly mechanised, raising questions regarding the role of the individual in the process of production.
With the invention of three-dimensional printing, it appears that anyone can become an industrial designer, creating products that are a direct reflection of their individuality.
Exploring such topics will be professional designers including Tuur van Balen & Revital Cohen (Cohen van Balen), Thomas Lommée & Christiane Högner (Intrastructures / LoFi Studio), Pieter-Jan Pieters (OWOW) and Caro van den Hole (MaisonCaro).
Working between Hôtel Droog and De Brakke Grond, their creations and ideas will be on display in both locations, giving viewers a sense of how industry professionals feel about the future of their craft.

Theme of the Month: Labour of the Day
In co-ordination with the exhibition of the same name, Droog and De Brakke Grond will present a full cultural programme from April 3 until May 4 investigating the intersections of labour and technology in the world of industrial design.
To accomplish this task, the two institutions will be bringing a variety of critics, professionals, artists and curious individuals together to discuss and debate.
The role of labour will be addressed from a variety of approaches, including theatre performances, a design market, walking tours and sonic experiences, in addition to the working exhibition.
